2.      School Plan

Location: Bluff Ridge Elementary is located at 2680 S. Bluff Ridge Drive in Syracuse, Utah. Many students walk or ride bikes to school. One bus picks up our special education students, and one bus picks up general education students in the Still Water development.

Established School Crossings:

·         The intersection of Bluff Ridge Drive and 2700 S.

·         The intersection of Bluff Ridge Drive and 2525 N.

·         Two at the round-a-bout at the intersection of 1000 W. and 2700 S.

Established School Speed Zones:

·         2700 S. where the crosswalk is located

School Evacuation Route: In case of an emergency, we will evacuate to the field on the west side of the playground by walking on sidewalks and the blacktop.  If evacuation off school property is needed, we will evacuate to the LDS church directly west of the school by walking on the sidewalk on the north side of 2700 S. or by walking west across the field. Evacuation to Church Contact: Call 911, tell the operator you need a fire truck to the church located at 2679 South 1000 West. The Syracuse Fire Department has a key to the church.

Present Access Routes:

From the north: Students who live to the north of the school walk on Bluff Ridge Drive. If they are on the west side of Bluff Ridge Drive, they remain on that side of the road. If they live to the east of Bluff Ridge Drive, they walk on the east side of the road until they reach the crossing guard. A crossing guard is located at 2525 S. Bluff Ridge Drive. Once the students have crossed the street, they stay on the sidewalk on the west side of the road until they reach the school.

From the east: Students who live north of 2700 S. and east of the school remain on the sidewalk on the north side of 2700 S. A crossing guard is located where Bluff Ridge Drive meets 2700 S. to assist students in crossing Bluff Ridge Drive.

From the west: Students who live north of 2700 W. and west of the school remain on the sidewalk on the north side of 2700 S. A crossing guard is located at the round-a-bout at 1000 W. and 2700 S. to assist in crossing 1000 W.

From the south: Students who live on the south side of 2700 S. remain on the sidewalk to the south until they reach one of the crossing guards at the round-a-bout at 1000 W. and 2700 S. Once they cross 2700 S., they remain on the sidewalk on the north side of 2700 S. until they reach the school.

Sidewalks: Sidewalks are located along all access routes.

Hazards: There are no current hazards to be concerned about.

Future Growth Areas: Bluff Ridge currently has one construction project in the school’s boundaries located near Jensen Park.

Bus Loading/Unloading: The school has one bus loop on the south side of the school.  One bus picks up our special education students, and one bus picks up general education students in the Still Water development. The bus loop is also used by parents of students in our Essential Elements classes to drop off/pick up their student(s).

Dissemination of Plan and Training:

·         The plan will be presented to the community council at the beginning of the year. Training will occur through school newsletters and our school website.

·         Teacher training will occur at the beginning of the school year.

Recommendations:

·         Continue training parents on the drop-off/pick-up procedures.  Parents are double parking in the drop-off/pick-up areas in all locations, which is a safety concern for students and holds up traffic.
